Regional Flight Travel in Asia has come a long way over the last decade. While flights around the region used to cost hundreds of Dollars until still in the late 90’s, this changed dramatically with the introduction of Budget Airlines in Asia, just a few years into the new millennium.
Nowadays, brands like Jet Star, Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific Airlines and Air Asia are common household names, who revolutionized the ways people in Asia travel. Especially Air Asia, ‘World’s best low-cost airline’ in 2010 (according to Skytrax) deserves further mentioning, if you have no money to waste and plan to fly as cheap as possible in Asia.

After losing some pounds following the tips in this article – it’s now time to put some of them back – NOT!
Asia is such a vast area with many different influences, flavors and cultures, that it’s hard to pick out typical Asian dishes. Fortunately there are Asian dishes that are popular in more than one country in Asia and among Westerners alike.
Some are even so popular, that there are wars among ‘foodies’, who invented what dish and which country can claim credit of its origin.
Let’s have a look at the most popular ones and why they are so delicious:

Back in the days, when still living in Germany, I used to eat very irregularly. 4 days a week on the road, you just stuff anything edible in your mouth. Mostly things like Fast Food, Pizza and some ‘German Classics’ like Doener Kebab or Currywurst.
Needless to say I always had a bit more pounds on my hips than necessary. Usually 5-10, but up to 20 pounds during the worst of times. And I didn’t have much to do for that.

For Westerners it is sometimes difficult to understand Asia’s obsession with Karaoke. What’s so exciting about embarrassing yourself in front of your friends or even strangers with your non-existing singing skills?
Fortunately – Karaoke is more than that, it can be a favorite pastime or your dirty little secret.
Once you take your time to get the hang of it – you could have lots of pleasure and a great time enjoying yourself.
But let’s first shed some light on Karaoke and some stereotypes – on what most people believe to understand about it:

South East Asia is a vast region with gorgeous landscapes and everlasting impressions. Wandering her many cities and countries – looking for adventure, pleasure, luck, love, business or plain relaxation – you can see travelers from all over the world flocking to our favorite region.
Of course, somehow we all have our favorite countries here to travel to over and over again. The usual suspects come to mind: Thailand, Malaysia even China.
But how about the smaller or not-so-known ones?
Today is the day of truth. What is your favorite country in South East Asia?

Our friend Anthony Bourdain is surely a unique character. He is an honest and down-to earth guy – fully respectful of other cultures or traditions – yet he speaks out his mind if something is horrible or brackish.
They don’t call him “Rogue Chef” for nothing.
And he is practically a living Nomad. He enjoys to travel around the world, trying out new foods and shooting a travel show, compared to standing in a kitchen 14 hours a day, 110 degrees, making 300 meals.
Simpatico!

Asia is a melting pot of different cultures, religions and values. Ever since Marco Polo made his way to this part of the world, people had their own ideas, misconceptions or prejudices without even knowing some basic facts first hand.
Some of those prevail even today, especially about mixed relationships.
With this I mean relationships between Asian and Caucasian women or men.
Everyone heard those kind of stories of bald, old, fat foreign men flocking to Asia and soon be seen hand-in-hand with an exotic beauty. Sooner than later they will buy a house and a pickup truck for their ‘new-found family’. A bit later they are back were they were before – just stripped of their money and other belongings. Need an example?

Found that picture in this week’s issue of the ‘Lombok Times’ and it reminded me, that I still owe you guys the 2nd part of Sex, Lust and Foolishness in Asia. Unfortunately the article – which was 90% done – was a victim of my recent computer problems, as Draft Articles in my Zoundry Blog Writer were all gone to Bit Heaven.
Oops!
Lazy as I am these days, it’s been a bit tough writing it all down again, still working on it.
