If you are coming to Indonesia on a Visa-on-arrival procedure, you have no choice but to travel out and back in to Indonesia to re-new your visa. This usually after 3 days (USD 10) or maximum 30 days (USD 25), depending on how long a visa you paid your US Dollars for.

Visa on-arrival or extendable visa?

PassportsThat’s something similar I used to do when still living in Phuket/Thailand. Every month you just travel to one of the surrounding countries, cross the border, the officers at the checkpoint stamp you out, you enjoy a few hours in Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia or Laos – and back you travel to Thailand. New stamp, new visa. Now it’s a bit more difficult, as Thailand recently changed their visa regulations.

First Thailand, almost the Philippines and now Fiji. It seems that in Asia, coups are becoming more common in recent times again. So far it looks, like it could be a bloodless coup in Fuji as well. But one really has to worry, on what’s going on in the heads of those militarists. It can’t be good for a country’s reputation, economy and tourism to stage a coup at all against democratically elected governments. Whenever someone hates the government, you cannot just take it over. Read on for today’s latest developments:

This is what can happen to you in Asia’s red-light districts, even though you go with 2 or 3 persons. You can lose your wallet, mobile phone and – most important – your dignity. Here it wasn’t date-rape by men, but more date-rob by some hookers, stupid ones on top of that, leaving their ID at the hotel reception.

Didn’t know though, that those pills cause bladder control problems and worse. Must have been really a heavy dose, but read on:

After shopping in HongKong, Thaksin jets off for 5- to 7-day vacation

thaksin.jpgDENPASAR – Deposed Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday arrived on the Indonesian resort island of Bali for a holiday. Mr Thaksin, who was shopping in Hong Kong with his wife on Tuesday, was whisked into a limousine at the airport and left without speaking to reporters.

The convoy headed for the luxury Sheraton resort in the tourist enclave of Nusa Dua, south of the airport.

His plans were not immediately confirmed, although his lawyer said that he was on holiday. “He will be there on vacation for about five or even seven days,” Mr Noppadol Pattama said.

It’s been a while. ;-) We are meanwhile settled in Bali, having found both accomodation and transport to get around here. The first 2 weeks we stayed at Jalan Legian in the Jimbaroo Inn, a simple, clean place for long-term stay, you can check-in here for Rp 700.000/month (about USD 78!). You can use a shared kitchen and a pool with Jacuzzi.

The first impressions:Bali Rice Terrace

– it’s hot!

– the (tourist) crowds are younger (and prettier) ;-)

In another careless attempt without *any* regard to customer service or flexibility, ‘Thailands mother of all airlines’ is deflecting its own problems with the new airport to its customers. It’s only our time, so where is the problem, right? Oh my goodness……..read on:

PHUKET: To ease congestion and ensure that passengers arrive on time, Thai Airways International (THAI) is calling for passengers to check-in three hours before their scheduled departure times.
The call also applies to passengers boarding flights at Phuket International Airport.

Slowly even the Thai supporters of the bloodless coup begin to realize, that having martial law in a ‘democratic’ country is a paradox per se.

Here a reporter of ‘The Nation’ is wondering what changed having the coupsters instead of Thaksin. What an interesting read:

The good (about Thaksin) …

Having never been a Thaksin supporter, it is very difficult to write anything positive about the Thaksin era. However, in a few crucial aspects, it’s actually preferable to live under Thaksin Shinawatra than under a military junta.
