Simple living (not Paris Hilton’s “Simple Life”) is a lifestyle individuals may pursue for a variety of motivations, such as spirituality, health, or ecology. Others may choose simple living for reasons of social justice or a rejection of consumerism. Some may emphasize an explicit rejection of “westernized values“, while others choose to live more simply for reasons of personal taste, a sense of fairness or for personal economy.
…found this interesting article in Singapore’s ‘Today’ newspaper last week. It’s written from a Singaporean perspective, but the validity is truely global.
It goes in the same direction as “Retire young, retire rich”; that it’s best to not (only) have a salary, but let your (and other people’s) money work for you – thus earning rent, interest, dividends and having value appreciation of your assets as ‘other’ streams of income.
In this way you can reach true financial freedom and independance from any employer or nasty boss. This concept is especially important for us Nomads, no?
Having returned from our short trip, I put some pictures of Camiguin Island (Waterfall, Hot Springs, Sunken Cemetry) and Boracay (White Beach) on my Flickr.com Page.
Check it out under:

We arrived in Manila just a few days after a new coup alert was issued by president Gloria M. Arroyo. That meant more police than usual, traffic/car controls and even more traffic congestions. Fortunately, outside of Manila things went on in the usual relaxed manner, with sleepy Camiguin Island and lively Cagayan de Oro completely unimpressed of the political turmoil. In Boracay we saw the start of the low (cooler) season, which left most hotels/resorts in a run for their money. Rates started with 500/1000/1500 Peso/Night for Bamboo Hut Fan/Aircon/simple Hotelroom. All-you-can-eat buffets started at 200 Peso/Pax and 2-for-1 drink promos for as low as 30 Peso/San Miguel Beer, or 40 Peso for Rum Coke – that’s what I call value for money!
Recently I was surprised about its clarity of content, when I stumbled about this book in a book store. Retire young, retire rich.
It’s very compact and an easy read, yet Robert T. Kiyosaki gives useful views on how everyone can retire young and rich. It’s all a matter of your context.
