By now you probably know John Locke already. He is a freelance writer and the author of ‘Ten Lies We Believe’, which led to hefty and interesting discussions on this blog. John was so nice and wrote another guest post for nomad4ever. This one goes even a step further and shows the way, on how we can overcome the dependence cycle we are trotting every day; right ahead to a road of fulfilment:
Your true self – a sovereign individual

Michele Koh, a Singaporean who currently studies in London, has an interesting blog called ‘The 11th House’. She wrote a nice article about the best ways to explore a foreign country. I’m happy that she allowed me to re-publish that post here, as it fits thematically with my blog as well.
It’s best to read, when listening to Zamphir’s pan-flute epos ‘The Lonely Shepherd’; which most of you will remember from the movie ‘Kill Bill Vol. 1’, although the original version is at least from the 1970’s. Another alternative is Leonard Cohen’s ‘Waiting for the miracle’. Ready? Okay, here we go:

Nick, over here at Baliblog, wrote an interesting post about moving to and living as a foreigner in Bali. He is now here about 4 years and compares the changes after his first visit in 1993 and today and covers a lot of interesting areas, like
- Getting hold of money

- Local transportation
- What’s the food like?
- How does the climate affect you?
- Internet Access
- Meeting people
- Whom can you trust out here?
- Staying in shape
- What to do all day?
- Longevity
- The Balinese People

Beyond the hustle and bustle and the bright lights of its city life, Hong Kong has a lesser-known asset that is no less alluring – its hidden gems of natural beauty. These sanctuaries of nature are hidden in and around the city and spread among Hong Kong’s island territories, waiting to be discovered.
For those who don’t know where to start, the Natural Kaleidoscope Programme, run by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, offers a good overview of the best natural highlights of Hong Kong. Designed to showcase the territory’s lesser-known natural beauty, the tours under the programme are conducted by local experts. The programme offers an interesting set of seven tours for the avid nature lover.

This is what can happen to you in Asia’s red-light districts, even though you go with 2 or 3 persons. You can lose your wallet, mobile phone and – most important – your dignity. Here it wasn’t date-rape by men, but more date-rob by some hookers, stupid ones on top of that, leaving their ID at the hotel reception.
Didn’t know though, that those pills cause bladder control problems and worse. Must have been really a heavy dose, but read on:

No, not the old Police Song! But why not? Our recent day trip around Bali took us to Lake Batur (Danau Batur) and Mount Agung (Gunung Agung), the highest peak (3014m) on Bali soil in the north-eastern part of the island.
Amazing scenery! It really looks like your are on a different planet. But wait – first you have to get there.

Advantages of Offshore Banking
1 Offshore banks provide access to politically and economically stable jurisdictions. This may be an advantage for those resident in areas where there is a risk of political turmoil who fear their assets may be frozen, seized or disappear. However, developed countries with regulated banking systems offer the same advantages in terms of stability.
2 Some offshore banks may operate with a lower cost base and can provide higher interest rates than the legal rate in the home country due to lower overheads and a lack of governement intervention. Advocates of offshore banking often characterise government regulation as a form of tax on domestic banks, reducing interest rates on deposits.

John Locke over there at ‘Strike the Root – a journal for liberty’ was so friendly and allowed me to re-publish his great article about ‘Ten lies we believe’; that means LIES, which society puts on us. LIES, we hear, inhale and suck down with our ‘mother’s milk’ in the societies we live in. LIES that tie us in and make us less and less flexible, mobile and free in our thinking.
