Indian Nurses at workIt’s been a while since I wrote about Medical Tourism. Meanwhile I had a bit more experience with medical services in India and I’m impressed with what is available.

If you are an Expat, living in Asia without health insurance or a holiday maker from Europe, Australia or the US – it could be interesting for you to check out the medical system offered in India.

You can find solutions of world-class healthcare with very affordable price tags.

Let me give you 5 reasons, why you should especially think of Goa, when considering your next surgery or health procedure:

Best-of-2008 for nomad4ever - travel on!Only a few more days and this year is history again. Gosh – time was really flying the last 12 months!

I certainly lost a bit of track of what had happened over this period. In January we were still enjoying the easy-going life in Bali, then spending a few weeks in October in Singapore, before moving to Goa in India thereafter.

So continuing with the short tradition of a yearly wrap-up, 1st-time done here for 2007, here is the list for last year. These are the posts which attracted the most readers and sparked plenty of comments from you guys:

Singapore Skyline at nightI’m currently in my 2nd home country, my home away from home – Singapore! Bali lies now behind and being back one day is definitely on the list of things to do – but for now there are other destinations to explore.

And yep, Singapore is more or less only the stepping stone, as it’s an important airline hub and I can get here as well the required Visa to the real destination.

Some of you guessed right already, so you will be able to find me at least for the next 6-12 months not in Singapore, but in Goa, India:

Paradise BaliLiving the last 2 years in Bali were surprisingly smooth sailing. Originally we wanted to stay here 6 months only – now I almost can’t believe, how quickly time passed on this lovely island.

Coming from Phuket, the first impressions were quite mixed. What stroke me most initially, was the chaotic traffic and the colder ocean temperatures.

Now it’s time to move on again to new shores. Time for a Wrap-up of good and annoying things you can experience, when you live here as a long-term traveler, Nomad or Expat.

Here we go; the Best, the Good, the Ugly of Bali:

Topless Beach anyone? If you have been reading any Indonesian newspaper or internet website lately, chances are that you have heard about the new Pornography Bill.

This is an initiative, which could come into law in October to ‘protect’ Indonesia from decadent western influences like pornography and overly sexual displays in public. It shall ensure and uphold public morality. Even TIME magazine had a lengthy article recently.

Learn English with Authentic Native English Speakers - from AustraliaFound this sign in Jalan Teuku Umar Barat in Bali and it left me a bit puzzled. Are Australians really authentic native English Speakers?

I mean, of course our beloved Aussies grow up speaking English as their first language. But is that the real, authentic English you want to learn to improve your language skills, mate?

What is authentic language anyway?

Is it like asking a Bavarian to teach you German: “Yo mei? O’zapft is!”. Or a Swiss or Austrian?

How about a Balinese to teach you Bahasa Indonesia? Or a Singaporean to teach you Singlish?

Cement Structure at Dreamland Beach BaliAround 2 years ago I was raving about the so-called Dreamland Beach in Bali, situated at the west coast of the Bali Bukit, the dry hilly area south of the airport.

It’s one of the closest candidates for a Dream Beach, which Bali unfortunately doesn’t have in the abundance of let’s say Thailand or the Philippines. The only other natural white beach, west of the Padang Bai lagoon is currently developed into a 5-star Hotel resort for a Japanese company with restricted access for the average traveler.

Tough luck I hear you say, but for Surfers and Expats there was always Dreamland Beach – up until now:

White Rice - an integral part of Asian CuisineAfter losing some pounds following the tips in this article – it’s now time to put some of them back – NOT!

Asia is such a vast area with many different influences, flavors and cultures, that it’s hard to pick out typical Asian dishes. Fortunately there are Asian dishes that are popular in more than one country in Asia and among Westerners alike.

Some are even so popular, that there are wars among ‘foodies’, who invented what dish and which country can claim credit of its origin.

Let’s have a look at the most popular ones and why they are so delicious:
