India is notorious for its crazy and congested traffic, as well as for constant electricity brownouts. Both issues together would make for a catastrophic combination during rush hour.

Just imagine traffic lights at intersections out of electricity, leaving commuters suddenly all to themselves to regulate who has the right of way.

Right of way also is a debatable subject not only in India – but in all Asia – mainly the bigger and/or faster vehicle has the right of way. If in doubt, those with the loudest horn or brightest high beam of lights goes first.

Actually – todays picture isn’t so funny after all. It’s more a really sad story.

In many poorer countries it is considered bad luck, if your child is a girl rather than a boy.

The century-old perception is as follows: a boy will be able to work and support mother and father one day, thus bringing money into the family; while a girl will rely on other family members or has to be paid dowry for, when she gets married – thus costing the family money.

Only a few more days and this year is history again. Gosh – time was really flying the last 12 months!

I certainly lost a bit of track of what had happened over this period. In January we were still enjoying the easy-going life in Bali, then spending a few weeks in October in Singapore, before moving to Goa in India thereafter.

I was practically glued to the TV last week when the events in Mumbai happened; couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Hard to get in front of a computer again, didn’t feel like posting anything at all about long-term traveling in India.

But then, isn’t that what those terrorists tried to achieve? To paralyzing the country and make an economical impact? Most people in this thread on the IndiaMike Forum, discussing the repercussions of this hatred, agree that they want to continue traveling to India.
