Flag of ThailandAhhh! Thailand, the famous Land of Smiles. A wet dream for many, yet a fulfillable one if you see the influx of Farangs, who find a place to live long-term in Thailand over the last couple of years. Great tropic weather, friendly and beautiful people, relaxed beach life and a cuisine to die for – are there any more reasons to retire in Thailand?

Maybe cheap Costs of Living, compared to your motherland in Europe, the US or Australia. And surprisingly, Thailand can even score in this regard. Here is the latest update of prices for day-2-day items, in our tradition of cost of living comparisons for Asian holiday destinations:

Traffic Management by Rumblers in GoaIndia is notorious for its crazy and congested traffic, as well as for constant electricity brownouts. Both issues together would make for a catastrophic combination during rush hour.

Just imagine traffic lights at intersections out of electricity, leaving commuters suddenly all to themselves to regulate who has the right of way.

Right of way also is a debatable subject not only in India – but in all Asia – mainly the bigger and/or faster vehicle has the right of way. If in doubt, those with the loudest horn or brightest high beam of lights goes first.

A Dirt Road to the HorizonWhatever God you believe in, or even none at all – the recent economic crisis can shatter your beliefs and make you doubt the roads you are walking in life. Here are some calming lyrics most people can relate to.

Who knows, why we are doing what we are doing? Let’s just keep moving on, walking with our heads held high!

I never thought much of Kid Rock, for me he was just some dumb Punk, doing his thing and getting to ride Pamela Anderson – not my type though. Then my buddy Jeremiah introduced me to this song, during one of our last Karaoke sessions in Bali – man, I miss those!

Pre-birth Sex Determination punishable by law in IndiaActually – todays picture isn’t so funny after all. It’s more a really sad story.

In many poorer countries it is considered bad luck, if your child is a girl rather than a boy.

The century-old perception is as follows: a boy will be able to work and support mother and father one day, thus bringing money into the family; while a girl will rely on other family members or has to be paid dowry for, when she gets married – thus costing the family money.

This is especially a problem in India:

Family Atmosphere at the Start of Goa Trance Party at Hilltop in AnjunaGoa became famous in the 60’s and 70’s, when Hippies from all around the world discovered this smallest state of India to live a carefree life of love, peace and happiness here.

2 decades later in the early and mid 90’s – Goa Trance Techno Parties were invented here and with the help of Paul Oakenfold and other DJ’s, who went on a spree around the globe, they were introduced and became popular to a world-wide audience.

Best-of-2008 for nomad4ever - travel on!Only a few more days and this year is history again. Gosh – time was really flying the last 12 months!

I certainly lost a bit of track of what had happened over this period. In January we were still enjoying the easy-going life in Bali, then spending a few weeks in October in Singapore, before moving to Goa in India thereafter.

So continuing with the short tradition of a yearly wrap-up, 1st-time done here for 2007, here is the list for last year. These are the posts which attracted the most readers and sparked plenty of comments from you guys:

Flag of IndiaI was practically glued to the TV last week when the events in Mumbai happened; couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Hard to get in front of a computer again, didn’t feel like posting anything at all about long-term traveling in India.

But then, isn’t that what those terrorists tried to achieve? To paralyzing the country and make an economical impact? Most people in this thread on the IndiaMike Forum, discussing the repercussions of this hatred, agree that they want to continue traveling to India.

So I will follow their example and won’t stop recommending it. Read on for a “Cost of Living Chart” for living in Goa, India:
