The private equity group trying to take over Australian airline Qantas has admitted that its bid has failed.

Airline Partners Australia (APA) said that while it had valid claims to revive the deal, it would avoid a long litigation process and pull out now. APA had bid A$11bn ($9bn) for the airline, but missed a deadline for gaining sufficient shareholder support.

Qantas shares plummeted almost 4% when trading opened on Tuesday, in response to the weekend’s events. Despite the failed bid, APA has still left itself open to considering a fresh offer for Qantas.

A Digital Nomad is a person who needs mobile technology to conduct business while on the road which could be within a city, between cities or from other countries. Nomads are not location dependent except through personal choice and could be employed by a business or be freelancers.

This is a growing trend with the uncertainties of long term employment with a single company and rapid changes in emerging technologies, and there is a different mindset required to be successful.

So the guys over at Digital Nomads are trying to figure out what people who seem to live that kind of lifestyle are like and they came up with a meme about it.

Driving with a Taxi is still a very affordable version of transportation in most parts of Asia, even in Singapore or Hong Kong.

If you’ve ever been using a Taxi in Bangkok (which Asia Traveler hasn’t?) you probably can relate to Ali’s observations of the various types of Taxi Drivers. Ali over from Thai Tales is a happy Londoner Gal, living it up and teaching in Thailand’s capitol.

Much of the characters she met there might even be similar to Taxi Drivers in most of today’s Metropolis Cities on our planet; but Bangkok is truly a special kind. Besides flanking down a limousine, you can still have here the original Tuk-Tuk Taxis, even though those vehicles are slowly but steadily getting close to extinction.

Different regions different habits. Different tastes too. The Italians are practically brought up on Pizza, Pasta and Lasagna only while for Americans the equivalents are Big Macs, Whoppers, Marshmallows, Steaks and for Californians and Mexicans maybe Nachos, Tacos, Salads, Red Beans and Burritos.

How do I know?

There are strange tastes out there as well.

Everyone knows that the Chinese love to eat Cats, Dogs and even Sea Cucumber. The French eat Frogs. Some Germans eat Beef Stomaches, the Bavarians (some special kind of Germans) live on ‘Brezeln and Weissbier’ only. Japanese love to gamble their lives and indulge in poisonous raw fish besides digesting tons of whale meat, shark fins or turtles.

I first ran into this story when watching CNN’s show Inside the Middle East, which had various little episodes about the economic, social and cultural affairs of the people living in the Middle East. Among those was the touching story of New Zealander Marguerite van Geldermalsen, now 51 years old.
